A Bittersweet Farewell
Closing the Doors at Whittle Bird Coffee + Kitchen
8/28/20252 min read

Today was a tough one. After much soul-searching, many sleepless nights, and countless conversations, we finally made the decision about the future of Whittle Bird Coffee + Kitchen. With heavy hearts, we have decided to close our doors. This is not a decision we made lightly. We have done everything in our power to keep this little place alive for the community of Dover Foxcroft, but every path we tried seemed to lead to a dead end.
There were several wonderful people who stepped forward, hoping to purchase Whittle Bird and keep it going. In the end, though, it just didn’t work out. I know many are worried that if we leave, Whittle Bird won’t be the same. We understand that concern deeply—after all, we have been the face of this business since the very beginning. That’s the bittersweet reality of pouring so much of yourself into something: sometimes, it can’t survive without you.
Our last day will be Saturday, August 30th. That day will be incredibly hard for us, but we find comfort in knowing that we truly did our best. It was a good run—exhausting, yes, but so, so good. We poured our hearts and souls into Whittle Bird, and our greatest hope is that we touched this community in some small way, bringing a bit of joy, comfort, and connection to others.
If there’s one thing we wish for, it’s that our journey inspires someone else to open up shop in this little off-the-beaten-path town. Dover Foxcroft deserves places that bring people together. We are endlessly grateful for all the support we’ve received since the beginning. We will miss most of you (you know who you are!) and know that you will always be a part of us, no matter where our next adventure takes us.
If another restaurant, bakery, or coffee shop comes along, please—support them. Small businesses matter. We know the drive-thru at the local fast food joint is convenient, but when you choose convenience over quality, you miss out on the little joys that make a community special.
Farewell to all our Whittle Bird friends. Thank you for being part of our story. We will miss you more than words can say.
With love and gratitude,
Chris & Missy
