Countdown to Conway

Exploring our soon-to-be hometown, spotting new opportunities, and savoring a taste of southern comfort

The countdown is officially on—only 8 days until we roll our RV into the new campground! With the move creeping closer, we decided it was time to go explore Conway, the town that’s about to become our new backyard.

Conway has a lot going for it. It’s home to Coastal Carolina College, a super charming riverfront downtown, and apparently… an obsession with Halloween. I’m not exaggerating when I say I saw more pumpkins, skeletons, and cobwebs than I thought possible. Turns out, Conway actually renames itself “Halloween Town” for the entire month of October. Since Halloween is my least favorite holiday, that didn’t exactly thrill me. But the good news? From what I’ve read, they go just as big for Christmas—and that’s a holiday I can definitely get behind.

Funny enough, our grandson Henry already knew all about Conway. One of his favorite videos is Handyman Hal exploring the riverfront during the October festivities. So while we were wandering around like tourists, Henry was probably at home thinking, “Amateurs.”

After our exploring, we hopped back on the coastal highway and—plot twist—spotted a shop space for lease right off a busy road. Naturally, we called the real estate agent immediately and set up a showing for tomorrow. The original plan was for Chris to stick with mobile residential and business window tinting, but as we’ve learned over the years, plans have a way of changing. This space is such a good deal, and automotive tinting is second nature to Chris. It’s hard not to see the possibilities.

So, my Something Good today is stumbling across that garage space and the opportunity it could bring. I truly believe God places things in our path at just the right time, and this feels like one of those moments where He’s opening a door for us to walk through.

On a tastier note, we also found a pretty good BBQ restaurant in Myrtle Beach. It’s been a while since we’ve had true southern BBQ, and judging by the smile on Chris’s face, I’d say he was more than a little happy about that discovery!

On the foodie front, I’m extra excited because in the next few days I’ll be sharing one of my all-time favorite recipes. It’s actually the very first full dinner I ever made for my family back in my freshman year of home economics class. I still make it at least once a month, and it’s one of those meals that never goes out of style. Stay tuned for the full story and the recipe—it’s a good one.
