From Vet Visits to Coffee Breaks

A Maine Day Well Spent

8/27/20251 min read

The day started early and since healthy food options are pretty limited around Waterville, I decided to pack our own snacks. This gave me the perfect excuse to finally use the adorable little “Tiffin” I’d been eyeing on our shelves at Whittle Bird Coffee + Kitchen. We’d stocked them for ages, but life always seemed too busy to actually use one ourselves. There’s something so charming about the tiffin’s story—originally designed to carry homemade meals through the bustling streets of India, these three stainless steel containers stack together, snap securely, and have a handy handle for carrying. They’re as stylish as they are practical, and I’m already planning to use mine a lot more!

Inside the tiffin, I packed our favorite protein bites (recipe linked here ➡️). After today, I’m convinced we need more picnics in our lives—maybe even a whole recipe section just for picnic ideas! But I digress. Back to the main event: Harvey did great and handled the whole ordeal like a champ (well, maybe with a little bit of drama, but who can blame him?).

Before I sign off for the night, I can’t forget my “Something Good” for today: coffee with my husband, not once but twice, at Borderlands Coffee in Waterville. It felt like a throwback to the old days, before life got so hectic—just the two of us, no rushing, just enjoying each other’s company and a really good cup of coffee. Sometimes, it’s the simplest moments that mean the most.

Here’s to more little adventures, more picnics, and always finding something good in every day.

Today was one of those days that felt like a little adventure, even if it started with a very practical purpose. We took a trip to Waterville, ME, for Harvey’s long-awaited neuter appointment. Finding a vet since moving to Maine has been a real challenge, so this appointment was actually booked before we even knew we’d be heading back down south. The timing worked out perfectly, though since we will be moving in a little over a week—it also just happened to be our second night staying in an RV park after selling our house (still can’t believe that’s real life right now!). I was a little worried about Chris having to get a groggy Harvey in to the RV but it all worked out!
