Girls Day Gratitude

Cherishing Simple Moments and Lasting Connections Across Generations

Today’s something good is a memory I’ll hold close for a long time—a Girls Day spent with my daughter and two of my granddaughters. There’s a special kind of joy that comes from sharing simple moments with the people you love, and today was a beautiful reminder of that.

We started our day with a visit to what used to be my favorite home decor store. It had moved to a much larger location since my last visit, and I was curious to see what had changed. Walking in, I felt a mix of nostalgia and surprise. The prices were higher, the air was thick with artificial candle scents, and while some of the decor was still cute, most of it just didn’t feel like “me” anymore. It struck me that if you were a millionaire decorating for Fall, it would be the perfect spot! But for us, it just wasn’t the same.

Not wanting to end our outing on a disappointing note, I suggested we try a new shop I’d discovered a few days earlier. To our delight, it was in the old location of my former favorite store—a sweet little shop tucked below and connected to a bakery. The space was cozy and inviting, filled with food items, home decor, and the most perfect Weck jars for sourdough starters, all at prices that felt just right.

Now, my mom, daughter, granddaughter, and I each have matching Weck jars for our sourdough starters—a small but meaningful way to stay connected, even as we live in different states. It’s funny how food and coffee can do that—bring people together, spark conversation, and create lasting bonds. That’s what I love most about these moments: the connection.

In a world that often feels disconnected, where so many of us have our faces buried in screens, it’s refreshing to see people come together over a cup of coffee or a shared recipe. I sometimes feel like I was born in the wrong era, longing for more face-to-face connection. The irony isn’t lost on me as I type this on my computer, ready to share it online. But that’s the heart of this journal—to use this platform for good, to remind myself and others that there is still so much kindness and connection to be found.

There’s plenty of darkness in the world, but it doesn’t take much searching to find something good. My hope is that this blog inspires others to have conversations, plan a girls day, share a favorite recipe, buy coffee for a stranger, or simply sit down to dinner with family—no devices, just each other. Kids grow up and life changes in the blink of an eye. While I can’t slow down time, I can choose to cherish each moment, be grateful for the past, live fully in the present, and look forward to the future.

Tomorrow is our last day in North Carolina before we begin a new chapter in South Carolina. This week has flown by, but my heart is full of gratitude for every moment we shared.

A weekly newsletter will be launching soon, released every Friday! Sign up below to receive family recipes, home decor ideas, coffee talk, travel inspiration, free printables, and hopefully some in-depth, real conversations. Every message on the forum will receive a response—whether it’s a baking question, a coffee chat (with help from my husband!), or just a story to share, this will be the place to connect.
