Family Goodbyes, Fresh Starts, and Little Ways to Stay Connected

Things may be a little quiet here for the next few days as the move to Georgetown, South Carolina gets underway. There’s settling in to do at the temporary spot in the RV park, new routines to figure out, and plenty of adjusting as this next chapter begins. But don’t worry—there are lots of cozy Fall recipes and a full newsletter already in the works for subscribers.
Today marked the last day in Winston Salem with family before heading south to the new hometown. The morning was spent visiting with parents and helping Mom make the Whittle Bird focaccia bread. It was a huge hit, and there’s excitement about all the delicious variations that can be created from that base recipe.
There was time to say goodbye, but it didn’t feel as heavy as it has in the past when leaving for Maine. This time, it’s just a three-and-a-half-hour drive away, with plans already set to return in a few weeks for a grandson’s birthday party. That makes the farewell feel lighter and filled with anticipation instead of sadness.
One of the sweetest parts of the day was seeing the new matching sourdough Weck jars that are now shared between four generations—mom, daughter, granddaughter, and grandmother. It’s a little way to stay connected across the miles, with the hope of sharing plenty of recipes and stories that come from those jars. And honestly, isn’t this Weck jar just perfect?
Now the adventure continues with checking out the new property and settling into a temporary spot at the RV park in Georgetown. The emotions are a mix of nervousness, excitement, and a little bit of “what did we just do?”—but that’s all part of the journey.
