Looking Ahead to a New Season
Embracing Change, Cherishing Memories, and Welcoming Autumn’s New Adventures

Today marks just two days until the big move from Maine, and honestly, it feels like this countdown has been going on forever. Some of you are probably thinking, “Geez, just leave already!” (I hear you, I really do!) From the moment we announced our impending move, it’s felt like time has slowed to a crawl. Maybe it’s because I’m documenting every single day in this journal, or maybe it’s just the anticipation building up. Either way, this process has made me pause and appreciate each day for the little gift it is—even the ones that seem totally ordinary.
As we tie up the last few loose ends, my mind keeps wandering to the season ahead. Autumn is right around the corner, and it just so happens to be one of my absolute favorites! This year, though, autumn will look a little different. Instead of Maine’s famous fiery foliage, we’ll be heading to our new hometown of Georgetown, South Carolina. And honestly, I think we’re arriving at the perfect time. The summer crowds will have thinned out, the air will be turning crisp, and the mild weather will be just right for exploring.
Sure, the leaves in South Carolina might not put on quite the same show as New England’s, but they’re beautiful in their own way. Plus, the fall festivities are calling my name! I’ve already started scouting out what’s happening in our new town, and as a self-proclaimed foodie, I’m excited to pencil in a few must-try events.
First up: the Holy Smokes Festival. Over 40 pit masters and chefs will be serving up all kinds of barbecue—beef, pork ribs, brisket, seafood—you name it. It’s an all-you-can-eat extravaganza! Now, I’m not the biggest BBQ fan, but this is right up Chris’s alley, so you know we’ll be there.
Then there’s the Food and Wine Classic, where more than 100 chefs and world-renowned winemakers gather to share their passion. While we don’t drink, we do love the culinary scene in the Lowcountry, and this event is definitely on our list.
And the one that really caught my eye? The 36th annual Wooden Boat Show on the waterfront in Historic Downtown Georgetown. Picture this: 100 classic wooden boats on display, boatbuilding demonstrations, a corrugated boat race, children’s model boatbuilding, a youth sailing regatta, knot tying, maritime arts and crafts, and—of course—plenty of food. It’s a whole new world of autumn adventures, and I can’t wait to dive in.
While nothing will ever be quite the same as Maine, I’ve truly missed the food and coffee scene in the South. I’m looking forward to discovering all the new spots that have popped up since we last lived there.
As for the blog, autumn content is about to get even cozier! Think pumpkin, apples, warm spices, and figs (which are nearly impossible to find in Maine, and oh, how I’ve missed them). Chris and I will also be sharing some autumn coffee drink recipes you can make at home—perfect for those crisp mornings.

And finally, my “something good” today is a memory: a photo taken in our driveway on a crisp autumn morning during our very first year in Maine. Before the chaos of business took over, I paused for a moment to soak in the beauty of the season, grateful for the chance to live in such a stunning place.
Signing off for today—here’s to savoring the slow moments, wherever they may find us.
