Maine Moments in NC
When Our Favorite Places Come Together

Today was another day filled with family, old favorites, and just the right touch of something new. The morning began at Louie and Honey's Kitchen, one of my favorite spots in Winston Salem. Nestled in what I like to call my old stomping grounds, this place always brings back a flood of memories.
Right next door sits my favorite hair salon. Sadly, my go-to stylist is booked until December 26th, so the messy bun look will have to do for now. But having that appointment on the horizon gives me something to look forward to!
This building used to be a trifecta of wonderful-fullness: Louie and Honey's for coffee and a sweet treat, the salon for a fresh cut, and Fiddle and Fig downstairs for home decor inspiration. I’d often leave with at least one amazing find and a head full of new ideas. Those were good days, and the memories still make me smile.
Things have changed since my last visit. The bakery now fills both the upstairs and the space where Fiddle and Fig used to be. Fiddle and Fig has moved to a bigger location, which I have yet to explore. I thought I’d be sad to see them gone from my favorite spot, but what Louie and Honey’s has done with the downstairs is nothing short of amazing.
Louie and Honey’s is a mother and daughter baking company specializing in Amish Cinnamon Rolls, made from a heritage recipe, hand-rolled in small batches, and topped with a boiled brown sugar frosting. Their menu features many other fabulous pastries, all made from scratch with organic North Carolina milled flour. That’s something I can truly appreciate.
I had the chance to chat with one of the owners, who was incredibly sweet. We talked about Maine, The Lost Kitchen, and how she just got their cookbook, which was sitting right on the counter. It was such a neat moment—like seeing a little piece of Maine right here in North Carolina. The Lost Kitchen has played a big part in inspiring Whittle Bird Coffee + Kitchen, and it will always hold a special place in our hearts.
Thank you, Louie and Honey’s Kitchen, for being a place that is both inviting and comforting, and for making us feel close to a place we already miss. I’m looking forward to more family time over the next few days. Soon, I’ll be making our cinnamon roll focaccia with my mom and granddaughter, and I’ll share more about that in our weekly newsletter.
Today, my Something Good is finding a little piece of Maine in NC.
