Saying Goodbye to Whittle Bird Coffee + Kitchen
Treasured Pieces Finding New Homes
9/4/20251 min read

Today wasn’t especially eventful, and with all the transitions happening as we prepare to leave Maine for South Carolina, my posts will be short and sweet for a while. Our Maine adventures have come to a close, and now we’re just tying up the loose ends at the coffee shop. It’s amazing how much stuff accumulates over time, and with only three days to clear everything out—and Harvey still not feeling great after his surgery—it’s definitely a challenge.
We opened up briefly today and held an indoor sale, managing to let go of quite a bit. Honestly, we’re at that point where we’re just ready to move on. This is the hardest part, but I promised myself to find something good in every day, no matter how hectic things get.
Today’s something good was seeing some of our Whittle Bird items go to our wonderful customers. Watching the blue ceramic mugs—once filled with lattes and laughter—find new homes, and knowing our big metal Whittle Bird sign will be cherished, brought a sense of comfort.
Thinking about the sign, it feels like just yesterday that Chris and I picked it up, all shiny and new. We couldn’t wait for it to be hung on what we thought would be our shop for a long time to come. The sign was designed to get better with age, and today, looking back at the photo from the day it was first put on the building, it’s clear that it has indeed aged to perfection. Now, as it finds a new home, it carries with it all the memories and stories from our time here.
I hope these pieces serve as reminders of all the good times shared at our little café.
Signing off for tonight.
