Standing Tall Like the Oaks
New Roots and Finding “Our Spot” Along the Way

Well, today’s “something good” is a big one—we found a new RV park that feels like it’s going to be a much better fit for us! I’ve been trying to stay positive about our current spot (lots of pep talks to myself like, “It’ll get better, just hang in there”), but the idea of staying here for several months has been weighing on me like a bag of bricks. Around here, nice RV parks that rent monthly are very rare, so finding one just 30 minutes away feels like a little blessing amongst all the chaos.
It’ll mean Chris has to rethink his window tinting territory a bit, but since he’s mobile and can travel to job sites, it actually gives him more flexibility. The new park checks a lot of boxes—it’s close enough to things we need but far enough away that it doesn’t feel like we’re living in the middle of a traffic jam. Bonus: it’s also 30 minutes closer to family, which makes those drives a whole lot sweeter. Every little bit counts, right?
After checking out the new spot, we headed to Zardin for lunch. Funny story—we actually mapped out a different restaurant we wanted to try, but after wrestling with parking our giant truck and walking over, we discovered it was permanently closed. Thanks a lot, Google Maps. Instead of wandering around hangry, we went back to Zardin, and honestly, it felt good to have a familiar place in the middle of all this newness. I think what I’ve been missing most is routine, and it feels like that’s finally on the horizon.
So, today’s “Something Good” is this: our home has wheels, and we’ve found a new place to park it! No more half-mile dirt road filled with potholes, no more dust clouds every time we drive in. Instead, we’ll have paved parking, a recreation area with pickleball, and—wait for it—just 15 minutes to Costco. SOLD. Now we just have to survive the next nine days at our current spot… but hey, who’s counting? (Me. I’m definitely counting. Nine days. LOL.)
On the foodie front, I’ve been busy testing recipes to share soon, and this week I’m sending out a little bonus recipe to subscribers: Pumpkin Spice Simple Syrup for the perfect cozy autumn latte at home. Keep an eye on your inbox later today, and if you’re not on the list yet, you can sign up below.
Thanks for being part of my little corner of the world here at Whittle Bird at Home. Here’s to proving once again that home really is wherever you park it!
P.S. The photo today is of the gorgeous oak trees here in South Carolina—I forgot how lovely they are! They also reminded me of a favorite quote: “Every oak tree started out as a couple of nuts who stood their ground.” —Henry David Thoreau. A good reminder that even if the rest of the world thinks you’re just a couple of nuts, stand your ground!
