A Scone Story

Embracing Change, One Bite at a Time

8/21/20252 min read

The last few days have brought a whirlwind of change for me! As we prepare for our move back down South, I’ve been stepping back from my usual baking routine. Our incredibly talented baker—who will be taking over all things pastry when we leave—has been baking everything this week. It’s such a strange feeling to walk into the shop before opening, set up our pastry case, and realize I didn’t make any of it.

But you know what? It’s also a really nice feeling. There’s comfort in knowing that the recipes our customers love will live on, whether we bring on a managing partner or sell the business outright. A part of us will always remain here. I’ll admit, the control freak in me is struggling a bit, but each day it gets a little easier!

Today, the scones looked a little different than usual. My mind immediately raced—was the sugar left out? Maybe the salt? Were they not baked long enough? But then I tried one and… guess what? They were amazing! It just goes to show: even if things seem a little different, just give it a try. You might be pleasantly surprised.

I know our small town isn’t always a fan of change (and I totally get that!), but change is inevitable. Sometimes, if we just sit back and embrace it, we might discover something wonderful.

On another note, I just added a new scone recipe to my online recipe box. It’s one of my absolute favorites! Head over to the link to check it out.

And finally, my “Something Good” for today: For the first time since we announced we were looking for someone to carry on Whittle Bird Coffee and Kitchen, I feel a little hope. Hope that things will fall into place, and maybe—just maybe—we’ll still get to be a part of this special place.

Signing off for tonight!
