From House to RV: Adventures in Downsizing and Surprises

So, plot twist: we found out today that we’ll be closing on our house in 6 days! That’s a few days later than we thought, but honestly, since we still have zero clue what’s happening with the business, it’s all good. We’re basically professional movers at this point—almost everything is out of the house and into the RV. We got rid of so much stuff ! Turns out, decluttering feels amazing! Our RV is now so organized, I’m half expecting HGTV to show up and film a special. Here’s hoping the transition back to tiny living is more “cozy adventure” and less “where did I put my other shoe?”
Today also marks the last day we have any help at the shop, aside from our superstar baker (seriously, someone give this person a medal). Chris and I will be holding down the fort every day we’re open, at least until we figure out what’s next. One employee quit with a week’s notice (rude, apparently two weeks notice isn't a thing anymore), and the other is going back to school. Still crossing our fingers for a miracle to keep this business going for the community!
Now, for my “Something Good” today: a bunch of Wayfair packages arrived! I promise I’m not turning into a lifestyle influencer, but this is an exception. Back before Maine, our businesses were doing great—like, “treat yourself” great. We weren’t rolling in dough, but we had nice cars, a nice house, and if we wanted something, we just bought it. There were plenty of years before that when we struggled, so having a little extra felt pretty sweet. Maybe too sweet, because we definitely got used to it.
Then we decided to chase the “simple life” in Maine. I think God might’ve misheard us and thought we said “struggle life,” because it’s been a wild ride ever since. We’ve poured everything (and then some) into this business. So, it’s been a while since we’ve had anything new.
Enter: a random email from Wayfair (who, let’s be honest, I probably kept afloat during my shopping spree years). They said I had a $380 credit from 2020. Naturally, I assumed it was a scam—because who just gives you money? But nope, it was legit! I scored two rugs, two rug pads, a duvet set, sheets, and a matching blanket. And get this: they arrived in two days. Wayfair is apparently faster than Amazon in Maine!
Today, I got to decorate and organize the RV, and it felt SO good to have something new. Sometimes, it’s the little things—like a fresh rug under your feet or a blanket that doesn’t have mysterious stains.
Now, I’m signing off to enjoy my “new” living room and binge another episode of Suits (yes, we’re watching it again—don’t judge, it’s a classic).
P.S. Also, one more thing! The little table in the last picture was from Bare Bones and it’s actually an outdoor camping table that comes with two cute little chairs. Bonus: it works perfectly as a tray if we decide to eat in the living room area, or if I feel like beating Chris at a game of Sequence. Either way, it’s awesome and folds up to stow neatly behind the two recliners. I’m putting the link here in case any fellow RV’ers are interested: barebonesliving.com
